Featured Artist Spotlight: Dragonfly Key

I have been so fortunate to have other people promoting my shops for me lately, that I decided I wanted to share the love and promote some people myself! This is the first in a month long (maybe longer?) Featured Artist spotlight I will be running here, Each artist I pick will have center stage on my blog for a few days.

My first featured artist is Tashina of Dragonfly Key. I met Tashina in the Second Chance BNS Thread on Etsy She has some beautiful items for sale.

I’m Tashina and I’m 17. I live in Northern Virginia, up in the mountains, with my parents and my little brother with 4 cats, one chihuahua, and one rabbit.

1. When did you start making jewelry and how did you get into it?

Well, I started making jewelry at 13 just as an extra hobby, something to get my mind off life, basically, but once I started doing it, I could not stop. However, anything I made back then, you will never see now. They are only things my Mom cherishes now.

2. Where do you get the ideas for your jewelry creations?
Sometimes I see something in a magazine or a window shop and say, “I’m going to duplicate that.” Never happens. My creativity seems to make it into a completely different piece of art. Other times, I will just have a pendant, but then I draw what I want the piece to look like. The drawing sometimes does not look anything the finished piece either.

3. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself as an author and jewelry designer, married, with one or two kids, and living in a little Tudor style cottage on a small farm with two dogs and miniature horses. Can’t you tell how much I have planned this out? I would love to be right there now because that is how I picture my little paradise on earth…but if it could be by the ocean, it would be even better, ha-ha.

4. If you could start over with your business, is there
anything you would do differently?

Well, my business has barely taken off in my opinion, but I probably would not do anything different except maybe add more variety, but that is coming to my shop though, so I don’t know if that counts, haha.

Be sure to check out Tashina's shop on Etsy...
